It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s the Superman-styled Kia Optima Hybrid!

By Fisher Kia | Posted in Car Models, Fisher News on Monday, February 18th, 2013 at 4:03 PM

Superman Kia Optima Hybrid

Kia Motors America has partnered with Super Street magazine and DC Entertainment to generate a distinctive Optima Hybrid. This hybrid model will be inspired by none other than Superman himself, using his ultimate strength and steadfast concern for the planet as the motivation for its unique design. Here at Fisher Kia in Boulder, we always love the creative designs Kia comes up with, but this “super” model might be the best yet.

Partners in Justice and Giving

Kia and DC Entertainment have teamed up to create vehicles based on the famous characters of the Justice League: Wonder Woman, Batman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Cyborg, The Flash, and, of course, Superman. These customized Kias are representative of DC Entertainment’s relief effort and giving campaign called “We Can Be Heroes.” Kia is hoping that the vehicles will promote forces for good deeds in the world by raising awareness of the relief effort, which brings assistance to people in the Horn of Africa who are suffering from famine and drought.

The Customized Optima Hybrid

This is actually Kia’s first hybrid vehicle, and its Superman-like strength and integrity are demonstrated by its forceful and efficient powertrain. The one-of-a-kind vehicle symbolizes the strength and endurance of the planet’s most famed superhero. The traditional Optima was made wider with unique fenders, granting it a more muscular profile. It also has a variable suspension system that can lift and lower the car by just pushing a button. Superman’s recognizable chest insignia is styled on the hood, and the Superman-red paint spreads all the way to the trunk, representing the image of his cape. His belt is represented through the front grille.

The inside of the Optima Hybrid is furnished with customized materials that represent the superhero’s resistant battle armor. The unmistakable “S” symbol is incorporated into the seating and steering wheel as well. Video screens built into the front headrests provide information regarding the world’s hunger problems with a “We Can Be Heroes” video.

The regular, non-Superman Kia midsize hybrid sedan still stands out in the crowded sedan segment, even without the superhero emblems! Its remarkable power, distinctive style, and modern amenities make it a valuable sedan choice.

Test Drive an Optima Hybrid at Fisher Kia

Feel free to visit us at Fisher Kia in Boulder anytime to test drive an Optima Hybrid. Even without Superman’s style, you are sure to feel like a superhero flying along in this impressive hybrid!

Kia Goes Green in New Zealand

By Fisher Kia | Posted in Manufacturer News on Thursday, February 7th, 2013 at 6:55 AM

kia logoIt should come as no surprise, considering their green track record, that Kia is making a strong push to reduce its carbon footprint in New Zealand, with a strategy to become completely carbon neutral in the land of kiwis.

For years now Kia has been making enormous progress toward improving both the power and efficiency of their entire lineup through innovative engineering and design. This company-wide effort is best reflected in the 2013 Kia Rio and the 2013 Kia Forte Eco, which both tout some impressive fuel economy numbers with up to 37 mpg highway.

Still, what a lot of us don’t always consider when we’re thinking about the fuel efficiency of our vehicles is the amount of carbon emissions that go into the making of the cars and then in their eventual transport to the lot where we buy them. Kia is leading the way in the responsible production of quality cars with an initiative in New Zealand that has brought them to a certified standard of “carboNZeroCertTM.” This qualification comes from carboNZero Holdings Limited, a certifying agency for businesses and organizations that are looking to help the environment by adapting sustainable, environmentally friendly practices.

Based on an auditing report of Kia’s 2011 New Zealand operations by carboNZero Holdings Limited, 87% of the company’s carbon output in the country can be attributed to the shipping of vehicles from the plants where they are produced to the dealerships where they will be sold. Another 8% comes from Kia employees’ domestic and international travel.

Rather than simply buying carbon credits to compensate for business practices that do harm to the environment, the folks at Kia have aimed at lowering their carbon footprint in a very real way. In addition to a targeted effort at educating Kia employees and suppliers in different ways to save fuel, the automaker will be taking concrete steps toward reducing the amount at which it sends its new vehicles to dealers by freight throughout New Zealand, limiting the amount of travel by Kia employees, and generally dropping the amount of fuel used by company cars.

While we can’t say for sure at this point whether these practices will be moved to Kia operations in other countries, it seems clear from their actions in New Zealand that Kia is dedicated to being a responsible neighbor on both a local and international level.

You can find all of their new models at Fisher Kia, located at 6025 Arapahoe Road, in Boulder, CO. Stop by and test drive a fuel-efficient vehicle today!

The Kia Sorento and Forte Get the Super Bowl Treatment

By Fisher Kia | Posted in 2013 Kia Models, Manufacturer News on Friday, February 1st, 2013 at 7:25 PM

2013 Kia Sorento

2013 Kia Sorento

The Super Bowl is coming up this Sunday, February 3, and even if you don’t like football we bet you’ll be tuning in with friends and family. Whether you’re a diehard fan or just hanging out for the chips and salsa, the Super Bowl gives everyone a break from the game with some of the most entertaining moments on television all year: the commercials. It looks like there’s going to be another good lineup of fun ads this year, including a couple of ads by Kia.

Take a break to grab a drink or go to the bathroom during a kickoff or punt return, because you’re not going to want to miss Kia’s babies from outer space or super model “Hot Bots.” That’s right, during the Super Bowl this year Kia will be advertising their crossover Sorento model with a fabricated explanation of “where babies come from” as well as a commercial for their Forte model featuring fem bots with attitude.

The “Space Babies” ad features a family in their Sorento, with a curious kid who wants to know the big question: “where do babies come from?” Dad’s got a big imagination, and he conjures up the adorable idea that babies float down from the sky in a parachute and land at home with their families. What comes next is even better. In addition to human babies, all sorts of animal babies come down on puffy parachutes to start a new life on this planet. Later on, Dad hushes up the know-it-all older brother who wants to tell the real story by initiating Kia’s voice-activated audio system.

The second ad includes beautiful, spunky models in the form of futuristic fem bots. During the commercial, one guy makes the wrong move by giving a kick to the tire of the new Kia Forte. What ensues is a little rough bullying imparted by the fem bots, who have no patience for someone who abuses this attractive, other kind of model. “Respect the Tech” is the tagline of this ad.

Enjoy the clash between the 49ers and the Ravens this Sunday, and be sure to stop by Fisher Kia in Boulder, CO soon to check out the Sorento and Forte.

2013 Kia Optima Named International Car of the Year

By Fisher Kia | Posted in Press Release on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 at 10:41 PM

The Optima’s inspired design, features, and competitive price earned the ICOTY award, and the model is currently available at Fisher Kia in Boulder, Colorado.

2013 Kia Optima

2013 Kia Optima

Fisher Kia in Boulder is happy to announce that the 2013 Kia Optima has won with the International Car of the Year award from Road and Travel Magazine. Further enhancing its status at the top of the midsize segment, the Optima has built its reputation over the last several years for providing a midsize family sedan at a reasonable price while still maintaining a desirable combination of design, performance, comfort, and technology.

The Optima has also recently earned a number of other awards, including the 2012 “Best New Car Value” award from Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, a “Top Drives for 2012″ award from The Boston Globe, a “Best Buy” award from Consumers Digest, and a “Sedan of the Year” award from Autobytel.com.

Available in LX, EX, and SX trims, the 2013 Kia Optima has gained its reputation for its interior and exterior styling, luxurious for a midsize family sedan. Available with a 2.4L inline-4 and 2.0L turbocharged inline-4, the hybrid Optima produces strong performance and fuel economy, achieving between 34 and 39 mpg highway depending on the engine. In addition to the sleek styling and competitive powertrain, the 2013 Optima comes standard with a host of features including a SiriusXM audio system, Bluetooth wireless technology, and much more. The Optima is also available with SiriusXM Traffic & Rear Camera Display and Kia’s intuitive Uvo electronics interface system as options.

The success of the Kia Optima is consistent with the recent movement of the entire Kia lineup. Over the past few years, the manufacturers and designers at Kia have made significant strides to move their brand from the economy market to the midsize sedan, family, and even luxury markets while still maintaining a competitively low price tag on the majority of their models. This formula has worked, as Kia has seen growing success with an increase of U.S. sales in each of the last four years, one of only three automobile manufacturers in that category. Kia will not be slowing down on the success of recent years, as they unveil seven brand new or significantly redesigned models for their 2013 lineup.

The Kia Optima and the entire 2013 Kia lineup is available now at Kia Fisher in Boulder. Interested consumers can find their dealership at 6025 Arapahoe Road, Boulder, CO, and questions can be directed to their sales team via an online contact form or by phone at (866) 302-3684.

What to Do if You Get Stranded in a Snowstorm

By Fisher Kia | Posted in Road Safety & Driver Advice on Friday, January 18th, 2013 at 10:38 AM

winter drivingWinter is here in Colorado, and the chance for weather related emergencies has come with it. What should you do if you end up stranded in a snowstorm? The service experts at Grove Dodge in Spruce Grove, Alberta have put their heads together and come up with some answers.

Prepare for the Worst

Nobody expects an emergency to happen to them, but the old idiom of “it’s better to be safe than sorry” has been around a long time for a reason. During the winter it’s important to remember that many crises can be averted through simple preparation, so follow these safety tips, or else you might be sorry.

  • Keep emergency items in your car such as flares, flashlights, and radios. Don’t go anywhere without your cell phone.
  • Always keep your gas tank at least three quarters full. If you get stuck somewhere, you’ll need it.
  • Keep an emergency kit in the interior of your car, as you might not be able to get to the trunk. Stock your kit with a fleece blanket, food, water, and a first aid kit. Also, keep some sort of container that can hold water. Worst-case scenario, you can use it to collect snow for water.
  • Consider replacing the light bulbs in your car with LED bulbs, which are more energy efficient. When you have a limited amount of fuel, you don’t want to waste it by powering light bulbs.

What to Do it You Get Stuck

Getting stuck can be scary, so the first tip is: don’t panic. If you’re not thinking clearly or are not able to act quickly when needed, you are putting yourself in a more difficult situation. Here are the rest of our tips:

  • Use your cell phone, which you should have on your person fully charged, and call for help.
  • Stay with your vehicle. A car is more easily seen than a person. Staying with the car will also help protect you from the elements. You should only leave your car if you have no other choice or if you are familiar enough with the area to know how to easily get to safety.
  • When stranded for an extended period of time, run your engine for ten or fifteen minutes to heat up your car and melt snow. This will also help you to preserve your fuel and your battery life.
  • When running your engine, crack your window slightly. If the tailpipe is blocked by the snow, carbon monoxide can build up inside the cabin.

For more safety tips, you are always welcome to visit our expert service technicians here at Fisher Kia in Boulder. We are open Monday through Saturday, and can be contacted by phone at (303) 647-4887. If you would like to schedule a service appointment, please visit our online appointment request form. We would be happy to serve you.

Tips For Getting Better Gas Mileage

By Fisher Kia | Posted in Road Safety & Driver Advice on Tuesday, January 15th, 2013 at 5:17 AM

gas pump

Avoid the gas pump with tips from Fisher Kia!

With gas prices raising ever higher we are all looking for a way to save some money on fuel. Here at Fisher Kia in Boulder, CO we have some of the most fuel efficient vehicles on the market, but even a model with the best EPA miles per gallon estimate will perform poorly if you don’t have good driving habits. Follow these helpful tips to get the most of out of your car’s gas mileage.

  • Obey the Posted Speed Limit – Every vehicle has its own optimal speed that it achieves maximum fuel economy at. However, for most cars fuel economy begins to decrease at speeds over 50 mph.
  • Be a Sensible Driver – Excessive speeding, braking, and rapid acceleration is a huge waste of gas. Driving aggressively can lower your vehicle’s gas mileage by at least a third.
  • Travel Lightly – Carrying excess weight with you makes your car work harder and therefore significantly lowers your gas mileage. The effect is more pronounced in smaller vehicles. If you don’t need something, leave it at home.
  • Don’t Let Your Car Idle – Depending on the car, idling can burn up to a half a gallon of gas every hour. Running the heater or air conditioning also uses more fuel. If your vehicle is parked, turn off the engine. Restarting it will use much less fuel then allowing it to run for long periods of time.
  • Use Cruse Control – Maintaining a constant speed, in most circumstances, will help to make the most of a tank of gas. Use cruise control when traveling on highways.
  • Use Overdrive – Overdrive gears will allow your vehicle’s engine speed to go down, and in turn use less gas. Overdrive also reduces wear and tear on the engine.

2013 Kia Optima Earns New Prestigious TOP SAFETY PICK+ Award

By Fisher Kia | Posted in 2013 Kia Models on Thursday, January 10th, 2013 at 5:09 AM

2013 Kia Optima

2013 Kia Optima

When the 2013 KIA Optima rolled into our showroom here at Fisher Kia in Boulder, CO with its savvy style and generous serving of features, it proudly boasted that it was “not your average midsize sedan”. Their simple boast became certified truth just before the holiday season as this family sedan was awarded a new TOP SAFETY PICK+ accolade by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, known as the IIHS for short. Top scores on the IIHS evaluations as well as good ratings on the IIHS new overlap test made the Optima one of only 13 others in a 29 model evaluation to receive this prestigious award that rewards vehicles for their superior crash protection.

Top Safety Pick+ Status

The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety is a U.S. non-profit organization that evaluates the overall safety of a vehicle based on its performance in a variety of areas such as front and side impact testing, head restraint design, and roof strength. In August of 2012, the IIHS came out with the Top Safety Pick+ test which goes as far as testing small over-lap collisions in an effort to reduce injuries to the head, chest, spine, hip, and pelvis. In order to be awarded Top Safety Pick+ status, a vehicle must first earn good marks in other IIHS evaluations for passenger protection and then receive top ratings for passenger protection in at least 4 out of 5 evaluations. Basically, a vehicle has to earn good marks to earn a Top Safety Pick award, and then go above and beyond to be awarded the prestigious Top Safety Pick+ award. This, is exactly what our beloved Kia Optima did!

Kia Optima Safety Features

The 2013 Kia Optima was meticulously crafted with the safety of your family in mind. Loaded with standard features such as traction and stability control, front and rear crumple zones, electronic brake-force distribution, and side-impact door beams, and wrapped with an impressive array of side airbags, side curtain airbags, dual front airbags, and more, the Optima is ready to provide your precious cargo with optimal protection.

Kia Looks to the Future With New Sporty Hatchback Concept Spotted in Germany

By Fisher Kia | Posted in Car Models, Manufacturer News on Sunday, January 6th, 2013 at 4:59 AM

kia logoAt Fisher Kia, we’re always excited when Kia rolls out new concept cars. Even if they don’t make it to our new Kia showroom, concept cars signal the way that the manufacturer is pioneering innovative technology. Recently, spy shots have surfaced of the new Cee’d GT 5-door and Pro_Cee’d GT 3-door hatchbacks. While they were camouflaged, it’s still possible to glean some idea of what the cars will look like and what we can expect from possible future releases.

The Cee’d is scheduled to make a public appearance in the Geneva Auto Show next spring. That much is certain, and there’s no real reason for a manufacturer like Kia to pour money into a platform if it won’t see at least some level of release. The current Cee’d and Pro_cee’d is available in European markets and is known as the Forte in others, although this is an entirely different car than the Forte marketed in theUnited States.

The Cee’d GT and Pro_Cee’d 3-door would be a high performance versions of the current existing hatchback. What we can expect from this vehicle whether or not it makes it toNorth Americais a muscular 204 hp GDI 1.6L four-cylinder that uses a twin-scroll turbocharger and gasoline direct injection. We would expect a vehicle that could get from 0 to 60 in less than eight seconds. This engine would look a lot like the power plant in the current Kia Veloster Turbo.

We would also expect that Kia would provide a sport-tuned suspension, upgraded high-quality disc brakes, and a stiffened chassis to wrap up the sporty package. It is also expected that Kia will add performance oriented touches inside like alloy pedals and a sport steering wheel. It looks like the exterior will get touched up with aerodynamic panels and a rear spoiler. Based on the spy shots, dual exhaust and 18-inch alloy wheels also seem to be available, if not standard, equipment.

While we might not see this Kia in our dealership anytime soon, it’s still an exciting development. Until we can say for sure whether or not the Kia Pro_Cee’d will show up at Fisher Kia, come visit our dealership and test drive the Veloster Turbo, if you’re in need of a sporty and distinctive hatchback today.

Kia Shows Off Superhero Themed Concept Cars

By Fisher Kia | Posted in Manufacturer News on Sunday, December 30th, 2012 at 8:55 AM

Kia's Superhero LineupWhile they may not be available in our new car showroom at Fisher Kia, these superhero themed DC Comics collaboration cars that Kia has made are definitely cool. They went way beyond fancy custom decals to develop cars that match the personas of the comic book characters. DC Comics and Kia collaborated comic book artist Jim Lee, West Coast Customs, and Ride and Super Street magazines to produce four unique vehicles that correspond to each member of The Justice League.

Cyborg Forte Hatchback – The Cyborg inspired Forte has widened fenders and is metallic silver all over. A big vented hood scoop looks ready to swallow any villains in the way and red LEDs are a striking touch. The inside is adorned with the cyborg logo and red and black trim.

Flash Forte Koup – This special version of the Forte Koup sports a custom paint job with a lightning bolt on a red and yellow background. The striking paint makes the vehicle look as if it’s going very fast even when it’s sitting still. Designers even took the handles off the doors to emphasize the sleekness of the show car. The car is topped off with a hood cutout making the engine visible, big 20 inch rims, and custom leather interior.

Aquaman Rio Hatchback – This special 2013 Kia Rio features an impressive scale inspired green and black paint job that shimmers in the sun. A green leather interior might not be for everyone but the undeniably cool rear window includes etched scenes from the comics themselves.

Green Lantern Soul – As an homage to the Green Lantern, this Soul is done up in gleaming green chrome windows, finished in contrasting green and black. For an eerie lantern effect, green head lights shine behind a black cover. It may not be the most practical for night driving, but it looks good as a concept. Other maybe impractical features are the welded shut rear doors, 18 inch wheels, and dropped ride height.

Kia is also working on Superman and Wonder Woman cars and earlier this year put out a Batman inspired Optima. These cars are built for the We Can Be Heroes charity that raises money for the people of Horn of Africa affected by the current hunger crisis.
